2008 Hill Country Charity
Ball Present Kerr County YMCA with Check
Largest amount raised in HCCBA history
KERRVILLE, TEXAS, June 13, 2008 —Board members of the Hill
Country Charity Ball Association, Inc., (HCCBA) worked
diligently to bring the 22nd year of Charity Ball to an amazing
conclusion. On June 12, 2008 at a board members home, the
members of Charity Ball and the YMCA board and executive
director met for the check presentation of the proceeds from
2008 annual gala, A Night in Old Havana, which was held on April
19 at the Cailloux Center on Schreiner University campus.
Elizabeth Loggie, Chair of HCCBA committed, ‘”this years members
hard work has paid off, this year HCCBA has raised more funds
than any other year”. The Kerr County YMCA’s new programming at
Hal Peterson Middle School will be well under way with a check
for $83,500.00 to meet the needs of their grant request
of the annual community-wide gala event.
Kerr County YMCA has provided youth services to our community
for the past 17 years. Just over a year ago, Kerr County YMCA
became an independent association. As a result, Kerr County YMCA
funds now stay in the local community and are used for programs
addressing local problems. The HCCBA has fulfilled the Kerr
County YMCA’s request for assistance in creating badly-needed
programming for local middle school students. This programming,
Teen Club, will benefit over 650 children ages 12 – 15 through
on-site mentoring, homework assistance, Teen Leadership and
Service Learning Clubs, Sports programs and most importantly, a
safe place for the teens to call home after school. The Kerr
County YMCA had proposed a $75,000 grant request to renovate a
building on the junior high campus to house Teen Club and HCCBA
was able to give an additional $8,500 over the proposed grant.
“With these funds, this new program will be up and running in
time for the fall semester at the Jr. high” said Brenda Chapman,
Executive Director of Kerr County YMCA.
The Hill Country Charity Ball Association, Inc. has granted
$1,082,950.00 in total combined funding over the past 22 years
for charities in Kerr County. “We are excited that we were able
to meet the goal and go a bit further. This project will have a
lasting effect on our community and to a group of young people
and teachers needing a positive outlet. This year we will not
only surpassed the million dollar mark on funds raised for our
community, but this years funding will help a largely
under-serviced segment of our community’s youth. HCCBA strives
each year to improve the lives of others and this year is no
exception.” stated Elizabeth Loggie, Chair of HCCBA.
The 2009 Hill Country Charity Ball will be held on Saturday, May
2, 2009.
